Finntasia began as a traditional choir and continues to sing traditional and contemporary Finnish music in concert.
Recently we have added drama and dance for a theatrical touch.
We are affiliated with the Edmonton Finnish Society. Scriptwriting and song translations are handled by director Ulla Jordan, with assistance from others.
Jaana Ohinmaa serves as our dancing instructor par excellence and contributes a great deal of creative input.
Leena Vanhala provides a wealth of acting experirence, and Ritva Haikarainen shows the way vocally as lead soprano, along with Britta Karsten, Sirkka Kadatz and Tuula Hilvo. Kauko Siik looks after sound equipment. We're proud of our new and returning members Hanna, Christina, Carolina, Riikka, Penny and Minna, and character actors Rita and Irja.
Coffee and cake at rehearsals make for good conversation about music, Finland, and all sorts of things!
Ja hyvin juttu suomeksikin sujuu kun kahvi ja pulla tuodaan esille!
We welcome new members and all friends of Finnish music. There is no membership fee.
Here we are at the Edmonton Heritage Festival, August 2007, where we performed a program of traditional and contemporary Finnish songs at the Scandinavian Pavilion.
